WebDec 16, 2015 · Those enthusiasts that have been to the Speeton Clay will know that most ammonite examples are found in pieces in the clay. I've yet to see any examples of a complete fossil. I don't know whether the whorls do touch each other on the tapered ends or whether they varied because of age and/or morphology.....I'd like to know more.
